• day 6

George got started right away (6:30 am to be exact) with taping and mudding the ceilings and walls downstairs. After making a quick pickup for more water - it was another scorcher here today - it was time to get to work!

Around 8:00 am our plumber showed up to move the water lines in the kitchen up into the ceiling joists. These lines were previously hidden within the soffit. Instead of buying more copper pipe, sweating (loosening) the connections using a blow torch, and using the copper up above in the joists we used PEX. This type of piping is flexible and has lots of advantages! So, now we have copper pipe sitting on our dining room floor for the time being!

Mid-morning we realized our a/c unit wasn't working. We thought it might be because we were turning off different breakers so no one was electrocuted! Nope! We called my dad to find out if there were any tricks to starting it up - none of them worked. So, either the fuse has gone out or the unit has decided to die! Crap!!

As we were sweating it out and working away Maurice (my cousin) and Weston showed up to haul away the junk on our back patio! In 2005 they started The Junk Guys - basically you call them up, they throw all your rubbish (David's favorite word today!) in their giant truck, charge a fee (depending on how much of the truck you fill up), and take it to the dump for you! They even sweep up the remaining dirt and small debris left behind! They are super fast and before you know it all your junk is gone!!

Between the a/c crapping out, Maurice and Weston hauling away our junk, and the plumber working on the water pipes David and I actually did a bit of work ourselves! The big job today- install the 3 inch recessed lighting in the walk-through area! It seemed to take all day, but it actually works off the switch! (Looks like someone's been paying attention to wiring!)

On day 1 David and I scraped off the popcorn ceiling. This is what our dining room ceiling looked like mid-way through scraping.

By the end of the work day today, George had our dining room ceiling (and the living room) looking oh-so-grand!!
