• day 10

The tile is all up as well as the mortar. We're going to put in laminate wood flooring so the cement needs to be super smooth. David bought two scrapers- one tall and a short.

George was here to texture the open pocket door area so we can paint all the downstairs. Gina and I picked out paint colors for downstairs. The main color is a sage green- "Spring Walk" I think it's called and the kitchen & downstairs bathroom is yellow- "Corn Silk". We got a sample bottle of each color and painted them in one corner of the kitchen where they would meet. David approved!

Just before 8:00 am Jeff Wright, with Wright Choice, stopped by to install our kitchen window. David found him on craigslist and after meeting with him to get a quote we knew he was a great guy. He had to do a bit of trimming to get our new white aluminum window to fit. We plan to do the rest of the windows in the birdhouse but need to do a quick check of the finances to make sure we're still on budget. It would be a lot easier (and less expensive) to get the windows taken care of now before we move in.

Gina was also over to help out today. David put her to work scraping the floor to get rid of carpet glue. Luckily the previous carpet installers didn't use too much! Since the cabinets are sitting in the living room area we can't paint in there just yet. We're going to concentrate on getting the kitchen painted.

Mid-morning Gina and I went to Home Depot to pick up a 5-gallon bucket of white (for the ceilings), 3 gallons of green, 2 gallons of yellow, and other painting supplies. It was super busy at the paint area of Home Depot- apparently a lot of people are doing some painting this weekend!

Since the cabinets are being installed on two of the walls we didn't need to paint every wall all the way to the floor. Quick tip-- George told us to caulk between the wall and ceiling where the new texture was. It actually made it a lot easier to paint the trim where the white ceiling and yellow walls meet.
