I was away for a good part of the day so when I came back over to the birdhouse imagine my surprise at all that had gotten accomplished for the day!
Yesterday David and I sawed open one side of the wall that previously held a pocket door. Our idea is to have an open pocket door instead. The walkway is too small to really fit a "normal" door that swings outward so the pocket door makes sense. However, a broken pocket door is a pain-in-the-ass to fix. Don't worry it will be a great idea once you see the finished product! So, today David and George put in some drywall and taped the seams where the open wall was. Tomorrow it will be textured.
George textured both the kitchen/dining room and living room ceilings. It was cheaper for us to texture the ceilings than have all the walls smoothed out. Maybe on our next place!
We borrowed George's roto hammer to help us get the tile up easily. We were planning on using the scraping tools we bought but George assured us this would be easier. He was right of course! It seems like it's basically a hand-held sideways jackhammer. The Junk Guys are going to have to come back over to pick up our carpet so we decided to start a small pile of tile too.
Our floor has mortar left on it so next we'll use our scrapers (with some water) to get it up. We have to make sure it's super smooth so the laminate flooring will sit properly.
Tomorrow George will be back to finish texturing the rest of the downstairs and the open pocket door area. Our window guy, Jeff, will be by in the morning to replace the broken single pane kitchen window with a new double pane one. Gina (my sister-in-law) and I picked out two paint colors for the walls downstairs today. We'll be removing the carpet and pad tomorrow then wiping down the walls and painting. Looks like we're on track to have our cabinets installed Monday morning!
