The day started a bit slow but soon things were humming along! Cabinets were being installed around 8:00 am today. George was back over to install the water heater. David had to go into the office for a bit so George and I were left to extract the large beast.
To do this we had to move our washer and dryer into the living room and remove a piece of flexible copper pipe. Plus, we had to drain the 50 gallons of water. Luckily we had a hose that reached from the water heater out into the front yard. The first bit that spouted out was totally nasty! Once the water was done draining George and I worked on shimmying the top and bottom. At one point we were convinced that the builders had put the water heater in place first and then built the laundry area walls around it. Finally, it came out! The bottom of the beast was totally rusted out. Next George and I worked to remove the two layers of vinyl flooring. David and I plan to keep it concrete in that area anyway.
The new water heater was a bit taller and definitely skinnier! It actually has a bit of room to breathe now! George used some of our extra copper pipe to create a new pressure release line from the water heater into the drain in the wall. During this entire time the cabinets were being installed in the kitchen. Later the bathroom vanity for the downstairs bathroom was installed as well.
George patched a few more holes and textured them soon after. Once the cabinets were out of the way David and I pulled up the rest of the carpeting downstairs and threw it out on the back patio. It's very echoey now! The trim pieces for both sets of recessed lights were installed soon after.
The entire birdhouse has the ugly beige outlets/switches/covers so we worked on replacing the ones in the kitchen today. Lots of wires to pull out, reconfigure, and put back together. After grabbing a quick dinner we headed back to the birdhouse to caulk the living room ceiling so it would be ready for paint tomorrow. About halfway through we ran out of caulk and it was too late to go to Lowe's! So, we finished out the night scraping the glue and other materials from the cement floor.
Tomorrow we meet up with the tile guy to get a price quote for the downstairs and master bathroom. Hopefully we hear back from our countertop lady so they can come out and measure! We have to stop by Lowe's in the beginning of the day for more caulk and then it's lots of painting for me and wiring/ceiling fan work for David!
