• day 15

The night before David and I picked up travertine tile and a stone border for our bathrooms. Since our electrical downstairs is off (at the breaker) for the time being we decided not to drive back over that night to drop it off. Instead we stopped at Home Depot this morning to pick up some work gloves and then carried each tile in the birdhouse. We put half of the load upstairs and half downstairs.

Then I started out the morning scraping the downstairs bathroom floor. The previous owners had put down fantastic yellow laminate that really held in the dirt and mold-like substances in the corners of the rooms. I also think I forgot to mention that the last owners also did not take the previous laminate floor out- it was a lovely shade of dark brown. My mom and I had worked hard to get the downstairs laminate pulled out last week. But, now that we're putting down tile on the floor it needs to be scraped and flat for the new mortar. David was upstairs finishing some patch work in the office.

Tom worked today creating a shelf along the long wall in the shower. He also moved up the valves for the shower head and water turn on/off. David was super excited about that- now he can take "normal" showers instead of crouching down. Oh the life of a tall guy!! The rest of the day Tom screwed down wonderboard on the walls and floor. It's super heavy since it's cement-based. Soon the travertine will be going up!

George worked hard mudding the other two bedroom ceilings. Tomorrow will be "texture day". There was also a part of the ceiling in the upstairs hallway that seemed to have been patched pretty badly. George mudded that part of the ceiling to make it more level all over.

I trimmed the edge of the ceiling white the day before. David worked on painting it twice this afternoon. Tomorrow Frank (from Stonenet) will be over to measure our kitchen and downstairs bathroom for countertops.

Cyndie stopped by again today to help. We took her with us on a field trip to Home Depot to pick up some supplies for the birdhouse. We started out with one toilet (we have two more to get), another 5-gallon bucket of white ceiling paint, and a kitchen sink. Then we realized we needed a downstairs bathroom sink and some faucets for each. Plus, when you buy a kitchen sink all you get is a kitchen sink- no strainers, water lines or anything! So we bought a few strainers as well. The back of David's car was again filled to the max with items! Shopping for all those items was hard- so much to choose from- so we grabbed some dinner and David got a haircut.

Afterwards, we brought the items back over to the birdhouse so Cyndie could pick up her car. It was interesting bringing all the items into the house with only one light to see by!
